Avila Beach Community Foundation Board of Trustee members Lucinda Borchard and Saul Goldberg recently presented a check for $4,000 to representatives of the Avila beach-based Central Coast Aquarium. The grant was used to fund the Scientist for a Day Scholarship Program that provides marine science educational opportunities to schools that might not otherwise be able to participate due to financial constraints. In 2016 the Aquarium was able to host 14 class field trips totaling over 400 students due to the grant.
New Donor Advised Fund
The Avila Beach Trails Improvement Fund was established in December of 2016 through an initial donation from Avila Valley residents Steve and Cyndy Lakowske. The Lakowske family members are avid hikers and runners, and launched the “Trails” fund to support the development of new paths and/or the maintenance/improvement of current trails throughout the greater Avila Beach areas. Other members of the community are invited to contribute to this fund that benefits countless locals and visitors alike.
