It’s also time for a minor Foundation “facelift” – one that should coincide nicely with our entry into decade number two. I have no doubt that very few of you readers are familiar with the Foundation’s logo, mission statement or tagline. Admittedly, neither was I prior to applying for, and being selected as, the Executive Director at the beginning of this year. While our existing mission statement -“To accept donations and fund projects for the enhancement and betterment of the Avila Beach Community, in perpetuity - still stands, we have decided to spruce things up a bit. So, I am delighted to announce the Avila Beach Community Foundation………………
$ $ $ $ Cash Contest to Create a New Agency Logo and Tagline $ $ $ $
We are offering a cash prize of $200 to the individual who creates the best digital logo, and another cash prize of $200 to the individual who composes the best agency tagline. New and Views, Part II – “Matching Contributions”
Earlier this year I wrote about a practice common to most community foundations - that of promoting local philanthropy. Many generous people live in our area, and some are known supporters of various Avila Beach organizations and special projects. Historically, non-profits realize a huge influx of contributions over the final three months of the year leading up to the holidays. As we enter the “giving season” our Foundation Trustees decided to sweeten the pot and approved a special allocation of $5,000 to be used for matching contributions. So, the first 50 individuals or businesses who donate $100 or more to one of the organizations or projects listed below will see their gift matched by $100 from the Foundation to that same cause. That means at least $10,000 will flow into worthy community projects that help enhance the Avila Beach lifestyle.
Each of the following organizations or projects is eligible for the $100 matching contribution offer. Visit our website at www.avilabeachfoundation.org to learn more.
- Avila Beach Community Center
- Avila Beach Marine Institute
- Avila Beach Junior Lifeguard Program
- Pale Kai Outrigger Summer Youth Program
- Avila Beach Front Street Summer Cleanup Program
- Avila Beach Free Weekend Trolley Service
- Restoration and Preservation of the Avila 1942 Dodge Fire Truck – known as “Grandpa”
- Avila Beach “Save our Schoolhouse” Project Fund
Checks for $100 or more should be made out to the Avila Beach Community Foundation, and mailed to: PO Box 297, Avila Beach, CA 93424 prior to December 31, 2009. Remember, only the first 50 donations of $100 or more will be matched with $100 from the Foundation. Feel free to call 595-4095 to ensure your contribution is one of the first 50 eligible.
