As we strive to meet our mission of supporting the ongoing enhancement of Avila Beach, two critical ingredients necessary to take us to the next level are MONEY and PEOPLE. It makes sense to turn to those fortunate enough to live in this little land of paradise and ask you to "Get Involved" through charitable giving and/or volunteering. Foundation grant-making capacity will grow as more people come together for common purposes of community improvement, and visions will come to fruition as more locals lend their time, passion and talents.
Within a few weeks the Avila Beach Community Foundation will have its first website up and running. I invite you to visit www.avilabeachfoundation.org to learn more about our organization and how you can “Get Involved.” The website will be an ongoing work in progress. Your feedback and ideas to expand website content are welcome.
By the way, you may have noticed the beautiful new sign welcoming visitors to Avila Beach. The production and placement of the new sign was a cooperative effort that involved several local groups--with partial funding provided by the Avila Beach Community Foundation. Lots of credit goes to Terry Eberhardt of the Civic Association who served as the project coordinator, and to Julie Andrews-Scott who pursued the idea years ago and never gave up. A photo of the sign dedication appears in this issue of the Avila Valley News. Likewise, you will see a photo of “Grandpa,” the 1942 Dodge fire truck being restored by our friends at the Avila Valley Fire Station. “Grandpa” is about ready to show off at upcoming community events such as the Avila Fish and Farmers’ Market. That restoration is yet another project funded by our Foundation.
Now is the time to “Get Involved.” Call the Foundation at 595-4095 to learn more.
